  • How many chairs fit my oval table?

In this document, we explain how many chairs you can place around an oval table.

    Consider the following:

Firstly, it's important to keep in mind that the shape of the oval table is different when you purchase a shorter or longer table. The widest part of the table is always 120 cm. The longer the table, the more 'pointed' the ends become. Sitting at the ends of an oval table is different from sitting at the ends of a rectangular table. Additionally, the width of your chair and the presence or absence of armrests, as with any table, are significant. Also, the specific frame influences the seating possibilities at the table, as with an oval table you'll be closer to the frame than with a rectangular table.

The frames of oval tables have a fixed position on the tabletop.

Feel free to visit one of our stores so you can try and experience the options, and so we can assist you in making your choice.

  • How many chairs fit my flat oval table?

In this document, we explain how many chairs you can place around a flat oval table.

The chair used in the example has a width of 46.5 cm. The bases of flat oval tables can be placed at 39 (A), 43 (B), or 49 (C) cm from the sides. The exact space between the frames depends on the type of table base. The bases of the 350 and 400 cm tables have a fixed position. The table legs of rectangular tables can be placed at 14, 20, or 26 cm from the sides. You don't need to choose the position at the time of purchase. All attachment points are on the tabletop, allowing you to change the position later.

  • How can I maintain my hardwax oil table?

On our maintenance page, you'll find detailed information about the use and maintenance of our furniture. We recommend using coasters and cleaning with a lightly damp cloth (possibly a mild detergent, afterwards, dry it). Wood of any quality reacts to (air) moisture, temperature fluctuations, and light; therefore, try to prevent or minimise exposure to these changes. Even finishes offer only partial protection against stains and scratches. Cracks or discolouration resulting from such exposure or fluctuations, as well as scratches, signs of wear, rings, or stains, are therefore not covered by the warranty, as they result from customer use and the environment a piece of furniture is placed in. Please also refer to our Terms and Conditions. On our maintenance page, you'll find more information about:

  • Are you FSC certified?

Studio HENK designs all furniture in-house, but production is carried out by a select number of manufacturers in Europe, the majority of which are located in the Netherlands. All our wooden furniture is FSC- or PEFC-certified under the Chain of Custody certificate of the respective manufacturer. Studio HENK itself does not have a FSC Chain of Custody certificate because we do not produce furniture ourselves. However, we do have an FSC License agreement, which means that we are allowed to use the FSC logo, for example, on our website.

Depending on the furniture you are interested in, we can provide an FSC or PEFC certificate from the specific furniture manufacturer. Soon, we plan to add this information to our website as well.

  • Do you supply project furniture for offices and hospitality?

Certainly, we can provide different sizes, colours, or finishes, and even incorporate cutouts and cable cubbies. We can also help you out with required certifications, to make your project meet sustainability standards. Get in touch with us to discuss your requirements, and we'll make you a good offer.

  • What are the dimensions of the furniture? How long or wide are my Studio HENK pieces?

On our website, at almost every specific product page, you'll find an image with its dimensions. Please note: our different designs have varying dimensions (not every Studio HENK chair design has the same width). Also, remember that dimensions can vary between chairs with or without armrests.

  • What is a chamfered edge?
A chamfered edge is a particular edge finishing of the tabletop. The edge is angled inward from the top of the tabletop.
  • I have children, what finish do you recommend?

For use with children, we recommend hardwax oil. Hardwax oil is less prone to breakage and scratches compared to lacquer. Please note: even with hardwax oil tables, scratches and marks can occur if used without coasters or placemats. However, due to the hardwax oil, it's easier to maintain the table's beauty in the long term, and in case of damage, it's easier to touch up.

If you prefer a coloured table, we recommend HPL Fenix instead of lacquer. With a magic eraser, minor scratches on the HPL Fenix variant can be somewhat restored.

• What are the advantages and disadvantages of hardwax oil and lacquer?

Both finishes come with their own set of pros and cons.

The advantages of hardwax oil are that it's less prone to breakage and scratches compared to lacquer, and it's easier to maintain its beauty in the long term. It's also easier to touch up in case of damage. However, it does require annual treatment with maintenance oil. Read our maintenance instructions on our maintenance page. We recommend daily use of Osmo maintenance spray and the use of coasters.

An advantage of lacquer is that it's essentially maintenance-free. However, its disadvantage is that it's more prone to breakage and scratches compared to hardwax oil. It's also difficult to repair in case of damage.

On our maintenance page, you'll find detailed information about the use and maintenance of our furniture. We recommend using coasters and cleaning with a lightly damp cloth (possibly a mild detergent, afterwards, dry it). • What does Studio HENK recommend: hardwax oil, lacquer, or HPL?

Generally, we advise customers to use hardwax oil. Hardwax oil is less prone to breakage and scratches compared to lacquer and HPL. It's also easier to touch up in case of damages. However, it needs annual treatment with maintenance oil. If the advantages of hardwax oil do not outweigh the disadvantages, people often opt for HPL. For business applications, HPL Fenix is often chosen because it doesn't require annual maintenance. Interested in business applications? Ask us about the possibilities.

  • How much space is there between the table legs? How far apart are the legs from the sides?

The table legs of rectangular tables can be positioned at 14, 20, or 26 cm from the sides. The bases of the 350 and 400 cm tables have a fixed position. The frames of the round and oval tables have a standard position. See also this document. You don't need to choose the position at the time of purchase. All mounting points are on the tabletop, allowing you to change the position yourself. The exact space between the frames depends on the type of table frame.

  • How many chairs fit my Paper table?

In this document, we explain how many chairs you can place around a Paper table.

The chair used in the example has a width of 46.5 cm. The bases of the Paper tables can be mounted in three positions. The exact space between the frames depends on the type of table frame. The bases of the 350 and 400 cm tables have a fixed position. You don't need to choose the position at the time of purchase. All attachment points are on the tabletop, allowing you to change the position later.

Feel free to visit one of our stores so you can try and experience the options, and so we can assist you in making your choice.

  • How many chairs fit my Blob table?

In this document, we explain how many chairs you can place around a Blob table.

The chair used in the example has a width of 46.5 cm. The frames of the Blob tables can be mounted in three positions.

  • What thickness of tabletop should I choose?

You can choose between a tabletop thickness of 3 or 4 cm. Opting for a standard edge finishing? A 4 cm thick top gives the table more substance than a 3 cm one. However, both are viable—depending on your aesthetic preference. A 3 cm thick top comes at a lower price.

Selecting a chamfered edge finishing? In this case, the added value of a 4 cm top is minimal since the top is finished at an angle.

For tables longer than 260 cm, for strength and stability, we recommend a 4 cm thick top.

  • How many chairs fit my round table?

In this document, we explain how many chairs you can place around a round table.

Alternatively, you can calculate it as follows: measure the width of your chairs. For this example, let's consider 46.5 cm without armrests. In that case, you can fit the following number of chairs around a round table:

    Ø 100 cm: 3 chairs

    Ø 110 cm: 3 chairs

    Ø 120 cm: 4 chairs

    Ø 130 cm: 5 chairs

    Ø 140 cm: 5 chairs

    Ø 150 cm: 6 chairs

    Ø 160 cm: 7 chairs

Feel free to visit one of our stores so you can try and experience the options, and we can assist you in making your choice.

  • How many chairs fit my rectangular table?

In this document, we explain how many chairs you can place around a rectangular table of a certain size. Based on that, you can determine the length of your tabletop.

Alternatively, you can approach it this way: measure the width of your chairs, for example, 46.5 cm. Add an extra 7 cm for each chair (5 cm is tight, and 10 cm is spacious). Consider the placement of the table leg, set at 14, 20, or 26 cm from the sides. If you opt for a mounting at 14 cm, add 14 cm to the calculation of the chair width for each side. This means, for three chairs of 46.5 cm each, you'd have 160.5 cm + 28 cm = 188.5 cm. A 200 cm tabletop is suitable for this chair combination. Note: with this positioning the frame should be mounted at the outermost position, which may affect the ability to comfortably sit at the head of the table, depending on the chosen frame.

Feel free to visit one of our stores so you can try and experience the options, and so we can assist you in making your choice.

  • I want a table that is longer than 260 cm, is that possible?
Certainly, in that case, you can choose from all finishes except HPL Unilin; this is only available up to 260 cm.
  • What is the height of a dining table?

In our collection, you'll find dining tables in three heights. Furthermore, the height of the dining table depends on the thickness of the tabletop. A table with a 3 cm thick top is a total of 74 cm high, while a table with a 4 cm top is 75 cm high. The frames have a fixed height of 71 cm.

The tall tables are available with a frame height of 88 cm, making the total height 92 cm with a 4 cm thick top. The table with a frame height of 101 cm is a total of 105 cm high with a 4 cm top. These tables are available with a choice of the following frames: Butterfly 92 or 105, Co 92 or 105, Legno 92 or 105, New Classic 92 or 105, New Co 92 or 105, or Slim X-type 92 or 105, along with the usual steel/wood and edge finishes. You can order these tables in our stores.

  • What is HPL Fenix NTM or HPL Unilin?
We sell HPL Unilin and HPL Fenix NTM. HPL is available with us as a finish for the top of your dining table or for the seat of your dining table bench and is available in a wide range of colours. HPL is a very sturdy sheet consisting of multiple layers of compressed wood fibers. It has a matte and silky smooth surface. Fingerprints are hardly visible on it, and it is quite resistant to friction, scratches, and wear. See also the maintenance page for more information about this material.
  • Why do you work with hard wax oil and not regular oil?

Hard wax oil is a combination of oil and wax. The hard wax oil is applied directly to the untreated tabletop. Three layers are applied to ensure a durable finish on the tabletop. The advantage of hard wax oil over regular oil is the combination with wax. This wax ensures that the pores of the wood are completely filled. Consequently, the tabletop is much better protected against stains than with regular oil.

• Can I choose the colour of the tabletop?

We offer tables in various materials, finishes, and colours. In our table configurator, you can see the options. We offer several wooden finishes as well as several HPL finishes in various colours.

You have standard choices from the following options:

    • Oak natural lacquer (Smart choice, Smart collection)

    • Oak hard wax oil natural light (3041)

    • Oak hard wax oil natural (3062)

    • Oak black stain

    • Oak smoked stain

    • Walnut natural lacquer

    • White lacquer (RAL 9016)

    • HPL (Check the configurator on our website or visit our store for available colours)

    • Unilin (Smart choice, Smart collection; check the configurator on our website or visit our store for available colours)

Both hard wax oil natural light and natural are transparent. The natural (3062) tends to have a slightly more 'yellow' hue compared to the natural light (3041) hard wax oil.

  • What is the Smart choice, the Smart collection, HPL Unilin?

The Smart collection, also known as the Smart Choice, is available in a limited number of sizes and different finishes, allowing us to offer these at a more affordable price than our regular collection. We can offer the Unilin HPL at a more affordable price than the HPL Fenix. The quality of the HPL is the same as our regular collection. The main difference between these materials lies in the level of matte finish; HPL Unilin has a different appearance compared to HPL Fenix. Fenix has an ultra-matte finish, whereas Unilin has a regular matte appearance. Both are made from FSC or PEFC certified wood. With the Smart collection, we aim to offer a selection of Studio HENK furniture as a smart choice, presenting the same designs and quality at a lower starting price.

  • What is the Smart choice, the Smart collection, oak natural lacquer?

The Smart collection, also known as the Smart Choice, is available in a limited number of sizes and different finishes, enabling us to offer these at a more competitive price than our regular collection. For this collection, we offer dimensions matching the dimensions of the wood that’s available at the most attractive price, and the finishing is more cost-effective than hardwax oil as well. There might be small knots in the tabletop - after all, it's a natural product. It is also made from FSC or PEFC certified wood. The wood is finished with a natural oak lacquer, which also provides protection against stains but has a slightly different, less matte appearance than the hardwax oil we use for our regular collection. With the Smart collection, we aim to offer a selection of Studio HENK furniture as a smart choice, providing the same designs and quality at a lower starting price.

  • What is A-grade oak?

We work with A-grade European oak wood. When discussing 'wood quality,' the quality refers to how the wood looks. A-grade, the highest quality, means there are minimal knots in the wood. There might be small knots in the wood - after all, it's a natural product. The wood used for our tables and other wooden furniture is FSC or PEFC certified. Wood quality has got nothing to do with the inherent properties of wood.

• Where can I find the terms and conditions?

You can find our Terms and Conditions on our website.

  • What length of tabletop should I choose?

In this document, we explain how many chairs can fit around a rectangular table of specific dimensions.

Alternatively, you can approach it this way: measure the width of your chairs. For instance, 50 cm. Add an extra 7 cm for each chair (5 cm is tight, and 10 cm is spacious). So, 57 cm per chair. With three chairs per side, this amounts to 171 cm. Consider the placement of the table frame, set at 14, 20, or 26 cm from the sides. If you opt for a placement at 14 cm, add 14 cm to the previous calculation of 171 cm for each side. Consequently, for three chairs of 50 cm each, you'd have 171 cm + 28 cm = 199 cm. A 200 cm top is suitable for this chair arrangement. Note: with this positioning the frame should be placed at the outermost position, which may affect the ability to comfortably sit at the head of the table, depending on the chosen frame.

Consider the placement in the space and the possible dimensions. To visualize the table with chairs in your space, you could place the dimensions of the desired table with chairs on the floor using painter's tape or use a custom-sized old newspaper.

Typically, around 60 cm of walking space behind the chairs is considered, plus the space taken by the chair with someone seated. This results in approximately 120 cm of space on all sides of the table. Armrests also influence the space needed to slide the chair out for seating. If you're barely meeting the walking space, chairs without armrests might be a better choice.

Please note, we offer the Smart collection, for dining tables, this is the 'oak natural lacquer' option in the configurator, which is a smart choice. These tabletops are finished in natural lacquer, are slightly more affordable, and they are available in a limited range of sizes. If you're looking for a table longer than 260 cm, opt for one of the other finishes.

Maintenance & assembly
  • Is the table protected against stains?

The table has been treated with a varnish or a hardwax oil, or is made of HPL. These finishes provide reasonable protection against stains.

    • Using your furniture

    • Step-by-step plan for thorough maintenance for deep scratches/stains

    • Services

Also, note that using cleaning agents can compromise the finish and thereby the protection, so it's preferable to use Osmo maintenance spray for a hardwax oil finish or a simple damp cloth (ensure to dry afterwards) to clean the table.

  • How can I clean the tabletop?

Note that using cleaning agents can compromise the finish and thereby the protection, so for a hardwax oil finish, it's preferable to use the Osmo maintenance spray, or alternatively, a simple damp cloth to wipe the table (don’t forget to dry it afterwards).

• How can I maintain and clean my Unilin tabletop?

Please note that using cleaning agents can compromise the finish and protection. Therefore, it's recommended to use a simple damp cloth to wipe the table. You can find comprehensive maintenance information for our furniture on our maintenance page. We advise using coasters. Wood of any quality reacts to humidity, temperature changes, and light; therefore, preventing fluctuations or exposure to these elements is advisable. Cracks or discolouration resulting from such exposure or fluctuations are not covered by the warranty as they are a consequence of customer use.

Unilin HPL is easy to clean. Thanks to its unique externally closed porous layer, the table can be kept neat with simple daily maintenance. For maintenance instructions, please refer to Unilin's website. They suggest (translated from the original Dutch text from their website, this original Dutch text is leading): "Glass cleaner and all-purpose cleaner are excellent choices. However, avoid dish soap as it contains oil for skin protection, which might leave a film on your panel visible after some time. Also, do not use abrasive products, as they can damage your surface, and avoid using corrosive products or products with hydrogen peroxide, as they can cause pale spots on your panel."

For detailed maintenance advice or assistance with stains, we recommend consulting the respective maintenance documents provided by Unilin.

  • How can I restore my hardwax oil tabletop?

Is your tabletop with a hardwax oil finish in need of a thorough refurbishment, for instance, because you notice the hardwax oil providing less protection? You can easily carry out this refurbishment yourself, see the step-by-step guide on our maintenance page.

Unfortunately, due to the drying times required between layers, we cannot provide this refurbishment service for you.

  • How can I maintain, impregnate, clean, and remove stains or pilling from the upholstery and leather of my Studio HENK furniture?

On our maintenance page, you'll find comprehensive information about maintaining our furniture. Did you know that you can prevent pilling on your furniture? It occurs due to a buildup of fabric fibers in the upholstery, often caused by friction with other fabrics (clothing, throws). Regularly vacuuming the fabric with a furniture brush helps remove excess fabric particles. If pilling does occur, you can use a simple pill remover device to eliminate them. Our maintenance page provides further advice specific to your upholstery, including impregnation, cleaning, and stain removal.

  • How can I maintain and clean my HPL Fenix tabletop?

Please note that using cleaning agents can compromise the finish and protection. Therefore, it's recommended to use a simple damp cloth to wipe the table. You can find comprehensive maintenance information for our furniture on our maintenance page. We advise using coasters. Wood of any quality reacts to humidity, temperature changes, and light; therefore, preventing fluctuations or exposure to these elements is advisable. Cracks or discolouration resulting from such exposure or fluctuations are not covered by the warranty as they are a consequence of customer use.

Fenix HPL is easy to clean. Thanks to its unique externally closed porous layer, the table can be kept neat with simple daily maintenance. Fenix NTM's website provides a maintenance document stating (translated from the original Dutch text from their website, this original Dutch text is leading): "Warm water is generally highly effective. As FENIX is a robust material, you can use any household cleaner, such as all-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, degreasers, or limescale removers. If necessary, even acetone can be used safely (always follow the health and safety instructions on the bottle). However, to avoid damaging the structure, refrain from scrubbing with abrasive cleaners, a scouring pad, or a hard brush; in the long term, this might lead to a shiny spot on your matte surface. Instead, you can use a melamine sponge - also known as a magic eraser. As a final step, always rinse with plenty of warm water and then dry the surface with a clean cloth. The water removes dirt, residues from cleaning fluids, and particles from a melamine sponge that might otherwise remain in the structure. The clean cloth absorbs water, thus avoiding any potential lime residue."

For detailed maintenance advice or assistance with stains, we recommend consulting the maintenance document provided by Fenix NTM.

  • Will the tabletop sag or warp?

Many solid oak tabletops tend to sag or warp over time. We aim to prevent this. Our tabletops are constructed using three layers of solid oak. This allows us to dry the wood much better to achieve the perfect moisture content, preventing our tabletops from warping. Additionally, steel profiles are placed along the width on the underside of the tabletops, preventing them from warping. When the tabletop exceeds 240 cm in length, a tensioning system is installed at the bottom of the tabletop. This applies tension along the length of the tabletop. If the tabletop starts to sag, you can adjust it with a wrench to restore the correct tension and keep it straight.

  • What can I do to prevent stains or rings on my wooden Studio HENK furniture?

Wood naturally reacts to (air) moisture, temperature fluctuations, and light.

Exposure to moisture or heat can allow moisture to penetrate beneath the finish or cause existing moisture within the wood to accumulate under the finish, resulting in stains or rings. Stains or rings may result from improper use.

This information is also part of our Terms and Conditions, including the Annex. You can find our terms and conditions on our website. Fluctuations in humidity or temperature, exposure to light, moisture, heat, humidity, and temperature changes can be prevented by the customer and thus fall outside the scope of Studio HENK's influence. Consequently, their consequences - such as cracks, splits, warping, rings, or stains - are not covered under the warranty.
  • What can I do to prevent scratches or signs of wear in the hardwax oil finish?

The advantages of hardwax oil are that it's less prone to breakage and scratches compared to lacquer and easier to maintain its beauty in the long term. It's also easier to touch up in case of damage. However, the furniture needs annual treatment with maintenance oil.

On our maintenance page, you'll find comprehensive information about the use and maintenance of our furniture. We recommend the use of coasters and cleaning with a lightly damp cloth (possibly mild detergent). Wood of any quality responds to (air) moisture, temperature fluctuations, and light; therefore, it's essential to avoid variations or exposure to these. Also, finishes provide only partial protection against stains and scratches. Consequently, cracks, discolouration, consequences of such exposure or fluctuations, as well as scratches, signs of wear, rings, or stains, are not covered under the warranty, as they are the result of customer use and the environment in which the furniture is placed. Consult our Terms and Conditions as well.

Scratches or signs of wear in the hardwax oil finish of wood are a normal consequence of furniture use, yet these are often preventable by using coasters and placemats. Scratches or wear - although hardwax oil offers some protection against these damages - cannot be entirely prevented and are therefore inherent to a hardwax oil finish.

Incorrect cleaning products or contact with other corrosive substances can also affect the finish, leading to stains forming under the finish. Stains or rings may result from improper use and therefore are not covered under Studio HENK's responsibility. Scratches, wear, stains, or rings are not covered under the warranty.

  • Will my sofa or chair develop creasing? Will the thickness of the filling/cushion of my sofa or chair decrease?

At the onset, seating furniture may feel slightly firmer and tighter than they eventually will after a few months. Upholstered furniture is internally equipped with, at times, various types of springs and foam. To provide comfort and accommodate the stress on the fabrics when sat upon, especially with softer padding, the upholstery isn’t stretched maximally tight on the furniture. Tightening the fabric excessively could cause it to tear at a seam, similar to what can happen with clothing. Additionally, fabric inherently has some elasticity, as you might notice in clothing as well, even with a sturdy pair of jeans. Over time, depending on the intensity of use, the fabric of the sofa or chair may show some stretch or creasing, or it might appear as if the sofa is slightly 'sagging.'

The padding also experiences a reduction in rigidity or stiffness as air within the foam escapes due to usage. While the foam typically regains its shape after use, over time, this process might become slightly slower, and with heavy usage, the impact could be more permanent. The air present in the foam gradually escapes with regular use, causing a decline in the furniture compared to its condition at the time of purchase. The spring system within the sofa is also crucial. Our sofas have high-quality springs that don’t stretch as much as cheaper, elastic springs, ensuring longer-lasting support and preventing excessive 'sinking' into the sofa.

Therefore, due to usage, the fabric might loosen, causing some creasing in the fabric. This is inherent to upholstered furniture and therefore lies outside Studio HENK's sphere of influence. However, smoothing out the furniture regularly, for instance, when getting up or while vacuuming, and trying to distribute weight evenly can help.

This information is also a part of our General Terms and Conditions, including the Appendix. You can find our General Terms and Conditions on our website. Creasing or foam reduction falls outside Studio HENK's scope and does not lead to non-conformity of the product.

  • What can I do to prevent pilling on my upholstered Studio HENK furniture?

Pilling can be expected with normal use of the furniture but can often be prevented and treated. Pilling of upholstered products can be prevented by maintaining the products according to the maintenance instructions available on the Studio HENK website. Pilling is the accumulation of fibers and occurs due to household dust or contact with clothing, cushions, or throws. Regularly vacuuming the furniture can help prevent pilling. Any inadvertently formed pills can be removed with commercially available fabric shavers.

This information is also a part of our General Terms and Conditions, including the Appendix. You can find our General Terms and Conditions on our website. Pilling falls outside Studio HENK's scope and does not lead to non-conformity.

  • What can I do to prevent discoloration of my upholstered Studio HENK furniture?

Discoloration is a common occurrence with upholstered furniture. Fabrics may discolor due to exposure to daylight or sunlight and friction. You can check the lightfastness (rated from 1 (poorest) to 8 (best)) of the fabrics we use at our stores. Upholstery typically does not score higher than 7, and thus, some discoloration is expected. Therefore, try to avoid direct sunlight on the furniture to minimise discoloration as much as possible.

This information is also a part of our General Terms and Conditions, including the Appendix. You can find our General Terms and Conditions on our website. Discoloration falls outside Studio HENK's scope and does not lead to non-conformity.
  • What can I do about stains on my upholstered Studio HENK furniture?

Stains on furniture fabrics can occur when liquids are spilled on them. Refer to our maintenance page on our website for advice on dealing with stains. Puratex impregnating agent can offer some temporary protection against stains. You can find our general terms and conditions on our website. Staining falls outside the scope of Studio HENK and does not constitute non-conformity. We can also advise you on professional cleaning for your furniture; please contact us for further assistance.
