How to find the ideal sofa for your home
You’ve just moved to a new apartment and you’re looking for the perfect sofa. With all the different sofas out there, it can be quite overwhelming. Which design fits your interior? And what size is right for your home? With our guide to finding the ideal sofa, we’ll help you along the way.
Buying a sofa isn’t a small decision. You want to make sure you choose the right model, size, fabric and colour. With these four steps we hope to make the choices easy and effortlessly. Here we go.
Step 1: Which model fits your interior?
Selecting the right model is mostly a matter of taste. What do you find visually appealing? And what fits with the rest of your interior? There are a few things you can keep in mind though. For example, you might be looking for a sofa that is large in size, but doesn’t stand out too much. In this case, a sofa with a simple, elegant design is probably the best choice. If you’re not sure which model fits best, you can always come by our showroom in Amsterdam for advice.
Step 2: What size is right for your home?
The size of your sofa is, of course, dependent on the space you have. In a small apartment a classic 2- or 3-seater sofa is probably the best fit. A 2-seater obviously takes up the least space, but doesn’t offer that many seats. Consider if you can combine a 2-seater with a lounge chair to create a comfortable and cosy setting. A 3-seater is a good option if you have more room in the length of your living space. Do you have a rather square room? Then maybe a 2-seater with chaise longue will fit.
If you have a larger living space, you can consider a roomy sofa with chaise longue or perhaps a corner sofa. A sofa with chaise longue is ideal if you want to place the sofa in a corner, for example by the window. A big plus is obviously that you can lay down on the sofa without taking up the entire sofa. We’ve recently updated our lounge collection with two modular sofas as well. The Modulo and the Cube invite you to play around with the different possibilities. Head over to the online configurator on our website to discover the possibilities and experiment with size, fabric and colour.
Step 3: How do you select the right fabric?
After you’ve decided on the model and the size, it’s time to consider the upholstery. We know that choosing upholstery for your sofa can be quite overwhelming. There are so many options. How do you make the right one? A little information on the qualities of the fabrics will hopefully make the choice easier. At Studio HENK you can choose between polyester fabrics from our standard collection or wool fabrics from Kvadrat. You can also opt for leather upholstery. The choice depends on your budget, of course, but also on where you will place your sofa. Is your sofa going to be placed near a window, for example? Then a polyester fabric might be more suitable, as it is more resistant to sunlight.
Basically, the durability of the fabric depends on the Martindale and the light fastness. Martindale indicates the abrasion resistance of the fabric. For daily use, an abrasion resistance of 10.000 is more than enough. The lightfastness indicates how resistant to sunlight the fabric is. Polyester fabrics are more lightfast than wool fabrics. Step 4: Design your own sofa
