Properties
+ Durable material resistant to wear, scratches, and impacts
+ Sleek appearance
– Not a 100% natural material
Sustainability
HDF (High-Density Fibreboard) is a relatively sustainable material, composed of pressed wood fibres sourced from responsibly managed forests with PEFC certification. However, due to the high amount of binding agents used in HDF, it is not very environmentally friendly and difficult to recycle.
Nearly all Studio HENK tables are available with an HPL tabletop.

Wool fabrics
Wool is a natural material known for its long lifespan and dirt- and water-repellent properties. Wool fabrics are often blended with other materials to enhance specific characteristics, such as elasticity.
Properties
+ Naturally breathable
+ Long lifespan
+ Wool does not need to be treated, as it is naturally dirt-repellent and moisture-resistant
Sustainability
Wool fabrics are relatively sustainable, but wool production involves high greenhouse gas emissions and significant water and energy consumption. Additionally, not all aspects of wool production are always animal-friendly. For this reason, Studio HENK only selects wool fabrics that carry the EU Ecolabel or contain recycled wool.
Below, you will find an overview of the wool fabrics in HENK's collection. Each fabric includes recommendations regarding its suitability for pets and children, which may vary depending on the specific pet or child.

Synthetic fabrics
In addition to natural materials, we also offer fabrics with a synthetic composition. These are man-made materials that mimic natural fibres. Synthetic fabrics often have advantages, such as being less prone to creasing and sunlight damage.
Properties
+ Naturally breathable
+ Long lifespan
+ Dirt- and water-repellent
+ Available in both neutral and vibrant colours
+ Not a natural material
Sustainability
Synthetic fabrics are generally less sustainable than natural fabrics because they are not renewable and are primarily made from petroleum. Another drawback is that synthetic fabrics release microplastics.
However, most synthetic fabrics in our collection are recycled, which results in a lower environmental footprint compared to non-recycled fabrics.
All options in our most affordable fabric group are recycled.
