Fenix HPL

Please note: only the top of the furniture is HPL, not the (chamfered or regular) edges, the underside, or the frame. This maintenance instruction is therefore only about the surface - the top - of the (coffee) table or dining bench. For example, the magic eraser should not be used on the edge of the furniture, as it will be damaged since it is lacquered.

HPL, which stands for High-Pressed Laminate, is an innovative material made from paper and thermosetting resin. The HPL panel consists of a thin layer of HPL laminated onto a thick layer of MDF, a pressed wood fiber panel material. Studio HENK has two types of HPL in the collection, each with its unique qualities. Discover which finish in our collection best suits your personal style and preferences.

Properties of HPL Fenix

  • Durable material resistant to wear, scratches, and impacts
  • Self-healing technology against surface scratches
  • Water-repellent with an anti-fingerprint feature
  • Ultra-matte surface that feels soft
  • Available in 14 colours
  • PEFC-certified

Sustainability
Although MDF is made from recycled wood chips, a considerable amount of binder is also used, making it less sustainable. However, HPL has a long lifespan, making it a relatively responsible choice. The HPL in our collection is PEFC-certified, meaning the wood chips come from responsibly managed forests.

Maintenance

Be mindful that the use of cleaning agents can affect the finish and thus the protection; therefore, use a simple damp cloth to wipe the table (then dry it). We advise using coasters and placemats. Wood of any quality reacts to (air) moisture, temperature fluctuations, and light; hence, avoid fluctuations or exposure to these. Cracks or discoloration resulting from such exposure or fluctuations, therefore, are not covered under the warranty, as they are consequences of customer use.

Fenix HPL is easy to clean, for example with a Kerapur cleaning sponge. Thanks to the unique external closed porous layer, the table can be kept neat with simple daily maintenance. On the Fenix NTM website, a maintenance document can be found, which includes (translated via Chatgpt, Dutch version is leading): 'Warm water is generally highly effective. Since FENIX is a robust material, you can use any household cleaner, such as all-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, degreasers, or limescale removers. If necessary, even acetone can be safely used (always follow the health and safety instructions on the bottle). However, to avoid damaging the structure, avoid scrubbing with abrasive cleaners, a scouring pad, or a hard brush; in the long run, this could result in a glossy spot on your matte surface. Instead, you can use a melamine sponge - also known as a magic sponge. As a final step, always rinse with plenty of warm water and then dry the surface with a clean cloth. The water removes dirt, residues of cleaning liquids, and particles from a melamine sponge, which otherwise might remain in the structure. The clean cloth absorbs water, thus avoiding any potential lime scale.'

For detailed maintenance advice or assistance with stains, we recommend consulting the relevant maintenance document from the Fenix NTM supplier.
