LivingBoard
LivingBoard is a sheet material made from sustainable wood chips and formaldehyde-free adhesive. It has a natural appearance with visible wood fibres.
Durability
LivingBoard is a highly durable wood chip and fibre sheet material made from FSC- or PEFC-certified wood. Moreover, the use of formaldehyde-free adhesive in the pressing and binding process ensures a healthier indoor climate. It is produced in an environmentally friendly manner and has certifications such as Blauer Engel, EU Ecolabel, and Cradle to Cradle Silver. While LivingBoard does not sequester CO2 due to the use of chipped wood, the furniture can be efficiently recycled at the end of its life.
- Natural appearance with visible wood fibres
- Exclusively available for our Amoeba collection: the slot dining table and slot coffee table.
- LivingBoard is finished with a clear lacquer for moisture and stain resistance. However, lacquer is more susceptible to scratches.
- Sustainably produced sheet material made from wood chips from responsible forestry.
Maintenance
Maintenance of oak furniture is relatively straightforward, allowing you to enjoy it for a long time. However, oak is sensitive to temperature and humidity differences, requiring a bit of attention.
Sensitivity to humidity, moisture, heat, and temperature fluctuations Wood naturally reacts to (air) moisture, warmth variations, and light. Cracks, splits, and warping of wood occur due to the environment in which the product is placed. Changes in humidity and cold/heat can result in shrinking, expanding, warping, cracks, or splits; such variations should be avoided.
The relative humidity varies daily depending on weather conditions. However, it's crucial to maintain constant relative humidity in the room where the furniture is placed. For instance, a dry room can cause wood to act like a sponge and eventually crack. Studio HENK recommends keeping indoor humidity constant, ideally around 55%. The ideal indoor humidity for humans is between 40 and 60%. To maintain humidity levels, regularly check the hygrometer and use humidifiers or dehumidifiers as needed. Modern thermometers and heating devices often come equipped with a hygrometer.
Significant temperature fluctuations due to heating also negatively impact your wooden furniture.
Remember, it's your responsibility as a customer to ensure the correct humidity and constant temperature are maintained to prevent cracks and splits in the wood.
Exposure to moisture or heat can lead to moisture getting under the finish or the existing moisture in the wood accumulating under the finish, causing stains. Stains or rings may result from improper use and can often be prevented by using coasters and placemats.
No complete protection against scratches or wear
Scratches or signs of wear on the wood's lacquer finish are a normal consequence of using furniture but can often be prevented by using coasters and placemats. Scratches and wear cannot be prevented and are therefore inherent to a lacquer finish.
Incorrect cleaning agents or contact with other corrosive substances can also damage the finish, resulting in stains under the finish. Stains or rings can result from improper use.
Prevention: cleanliness, humidity, temperature, coasters, and placemats
Studio HENK recommends maintaining constant indoor humidity and temperature. Additionally, we advise always using coasters or placemats to protect the furniture and its finish from abrasive objects, heat, or moisture. Cleaning the furniture can be done by dusting or, if necessary, wiping them with a damp cloth, and dry it afterwards.
Daily maintenance
Wood with a lacquer finish can be cleaned with a damp cloth and then polished with a dry cloth. Grease stains can be removed by using a bit of soap. Never use maintenance products with abrasive properties. Wax-containing substances are also strongly discouraged.
Beyond Studio HENK's sphere of influence - no non-conformity Fluctuations in humidity or temperature and exposure to light, moisture, heat, humidity, and temperature fluctuations can be prevented by the customer, thus falling outside Studio HENK's sphere of influence. Consequently, effects such as scratches, signs of wear, cracks, splits, warping, rings, or stains do not lead to non-conformity of a product.
