Elegant, refined appearance in natural wood colour. The surface may contain small knots and is sorted for as uniform a colour as possible. The oak is protected with a combination of oil and wax that looks natural and minimises yellowing as much as possible. The hardwax oil offers good scratch and stain resistance with proper furniture maintenance and use. Compared to lacquer, oil requires slightly more maintenance. Hardwax oil can be relatively easily touched up by oneself.

Maintenance
Maintaining oak furniture is relatively straightforward, allowing you to enjoy it for a long time. However, oak is sensitive to temperature and humidity differences, requiring some attention.
Sensitivity to humidity, moisture, heat, and temperature fluctuations Wood naturally reacts to (air) moisture, temperature variations, and light. Cracks, splits, and warping of wood occur due to the environment in which the product is placed. Changes in humidity and temperature can lead to shrinking, expanding, warping, cracks, or splits; such changes should be prevented.
The relative humidity varies daily and depends on weather conditions. However, it's essential to maintain the relative humidity in the room where the furniture is located at a constant level. For instance, a dry room can cause wood to act like a sponge and eventually crack. Studio HENK recommends keeping indoor humidity constant, preferably around 55%. The ideal indoor humidity for humans is between 40 and 60%. To maintain humidity levels, regularly check the hygrometer and, if necessary, use humidifiers or dehumidifiers. Modern thermometers and heating devices often come equipped with a hygrometer.
Significant temperature fluctuations due to heating also negatively impact your wooden furniture.
Remember, it's your responsibility as a customer to ensure the correct humidity and constant temperature are maintained to prevent cracks and splits in the wood.
Exposure to moisture or heat can lead to moisture getting under the finish or the existing moisture in the wood accumulating under the finish, causing stains. Stains or rings may result from improper use and are often preventable by using coasters and placemats.
No complete protection against scratches or wear
Scratches or signs of wear on the wood's finish are a normal consequence of using furniture but can often be prevented by using coasters and placemats. Scratches and wear cannot be prevented and are therefore inherent in any finish.
Incorrect cleaning agents or contact with other corrosive substances can also damage the finish, resulting in stains under the finish. Stains or rings can result from improper use.
Prevention: cleanliness, humidity, temperature, coasters, and placemats
Studio HENK advises maintaining constant indoor humidity and temperature. Additionally, we recommend always using coasters or placemats to protect the furniture and its finish from abrasive objects, heat, or moisture. Cleaning the furniture can be done by dusting or, if necessary, wiping them with a damp cloth and dry it afterwards.

Daily and weekly maintenance
The dining table is a perfect example of a piece of furniture that requires daily care. In addition to protecting your furniture with coasters or placemats, you need to keep the table clean. Do this with a lightly damp cloth, optionally with a mild soapy solution, and then dry the furniture. For cleaning your oak furniture, we recommend Osmo Spray-Cleaner, which "contains a small amount of wax in the product. This ensures that the wood is nourished and does not dry out. Cleaning the wood only with water can cause it to dry out and become less beautiful. Use the Spray-Cleaner weekly or once every two weeks for cleaning the table", according to the Osmo Nederland website.
Minor maintenance or stains
After some time, depending on the intensity of use and cleaning, your furniture may need refreshing. For this, we recommend using 'Osmo Onderhoudsolie en Reinigingswas' (Osmo Maintenance Wax and cleaner). This is suitable for removing, for example, greasy stains, and for refreshing and caring for surfaces treated with Osmo Hardwax Oil. It is easy to apply and economical to use (Osmo's advice is 2 teaspoons per m2). Make sure to order the correct colour, 3029 (colourless). Ensure that the table is clean. Follow the instructions on the packaging. Wipe until the greasy haze disappears.
Thorough maintenance
For the touch-up of oak natural, three layers of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 are applied using an Osmo Microfiber Roller.
- Sand the table evenly with P120 grit using a machine. Ensure that the existing finishing layers are completely removed.
- Begin by stirring Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 well for two minutes. After opening the can, the Oil and Wax are separated. Always conduct a test on the surface first to check if the result has the desired effect.
- Apply the first layer of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 thinly with an Osmo Microfiber Roller on new or sanded wood. Roll out the product well. Always apply it with the boards and wood grain.
- Buff the Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 within 20 minutes with a lint-free cloth, also following the wood grain. This ensures a uniform appearance and prevents excess product application.
- Mistakes made during application can be corrected up to 30 minutes after applying to the wet surface. This includes streaks from a roller or bristle hairs.
- The drying time for the first layer is approximately 8-10 hours (at 23 degrees Celsius and 50% relative humidity). In lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying may take longer. Ensure good ventilation at all times by keeping windows and doors open.
- Between the different layers, after drying, lightly but completely sand the surface by hand with 240 grit. Make the surface dust-free before applying the next layer.
- Apply a second finishing layer of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 (refer to step 3). Let this layer dry for 8-10 hours (refer to step 6).
- Apply the final, third, finishing layer of Osmo Hardwax Oil 3062 (refer to step 3). Let this layer dry for 8-10 hours as well (refer to step 6).
Fluctuations in humidity or temperature and exposure to light, moisture, heat, humidity, and temperature fluctuations can be prevented by the customer, thus falling outside Studio HENK's sphere of influence. Consequently, effects such as scratches, signs of wear, cracks, splits, warping, rings, or stains do not lead to non-conformity of a product.
